Guðmundur has over twenty years of experience advising clients on corporate and finance matters. He regularly acts for both lenders and borrowers in commercial lending transactions and has extensive experience in supervising due diligence processes and providing legal opinions in connection with debt offerings. He frequently advises startups and serves as an experienced board member. Guðmundur is fluent in English and Norwegian.
From 2011 to 2019, Guðmundur advised the Winding-up Board of LBI ehf. (formerly Landsbanki Íslands hf.), one of the largest insolvencies in history with liabilities of around USD 30 billion and estimated assets of approximately USD 14 billion. In this role, he advised on a series of significant mergers and acquisitions, including transactions involving Actavis (pharmaceuticals), Aurum Holdings (jewellery retailer), House of Fraser (department stores), and Iceland Foods (food retailer). He also played a key role in the restructuring of LBI ehf., working alongside LAGASTOÐ’s partners Kristinn Bjarnason, Halldór Backman, and Pétur Örn Sverrisson to oversee LBI’s court proceedings and lead complex negotiations with creditors, culminating in a composition agreement and a EUR 2 billion bond issuance.
