Gizur is a seasoned litigator with a strong focus on civil and commercial litigation. With his extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of Icelandic procedural law, Gizur helps clients mitigate risk and navigate complex strategic issues and legal challenges. His practice is centered on corporate and commercial law, and he is widely recognized as one of the Bar’s leading authorities in competition law.

On the non-contentious side, Gizur regularly advises private enterprises on commercial transactions and is frequently instructed by state institutions and municipalities on regulatory matters. In contentious work, Gizur has pleaded extensively before all levels of the Icelandic courts, including over 60 cases before the Supreme Court of Iceland, covering a wide range of civil, commercial, regulatory, and constitutional issues. He is frequently instructed by regulators and public bodies in judicial review challenges and complex litigation. In recent years, Gizur has acted for the Government of Iceland, the Central Bank of Iceland and the Icelandic Competition Authority, both before the Supreme Court of Iceland and the EFTA Court in Luxembourg.
